People are like… onions! ‘Getting vs Doing.’
Here is a talk I made at Disrupt HR London, in June, 2019.
One of the problems we face in hiring, is that we too often focus on the skills that help people in GETTING new job ahead of the skills they need for DOING their jobs. This means we can end up hiring the wrong people who then either quickly churn out of our organisations… or even worse, they stay!
One might reflect that this problem is so endemic that it has even permeated the selection process for some of our political leaders! But that’s a whole other post…
Forgive some colourful language, you’ve been warned.
Enjoy!
My thanks to my dear friend Brooke Allen for the inspiration to make this talk.
Some more interesting ideas for hiring processes from Stan Wasowicz.
Thanks Katrina for inviting me to talk!
